Foods with a bitter note are often forgotten these days because people are so used to eating mild and „industrial“ flavours.
Bitter foods however are highly nutritious, highly digestive stimulative, and their nutrients are likely to be reducing the risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. Which makes them great and essential „medicinal“ everyday foods
B I T T E R F O O D S:
🥬 Bitter melon ( one figures)
🥬 Endive
🥬 Watercress
🥬 Radicchio
🥬 Radish
🥬 Roquette
🥬 Dandelion greens
🥬 Citrus peel and lemon juice
🥬 Cacao (raw) and coffee
🥬 Apple cider vinegar
Having bitters before a meal helps to stimulate the body own enzyme production, which are responsible for the breakdown and uptake of foods into our system.
Symptoms of insufficient digestion might include: bloating, reflux, heartburn, flatulence and abdominal discomfort.
Bitter foods can easily be used as an entre: chopped up and put in a salad, together with a delicious mustard-lemon/apple cider vinaigrette 💛
